Outreach Events

  • EIT - Engineers in Training Day (SOLES)

    • The main purpose of EIT is to encourage high school students to attend college, especially in the fields of engineering and science. SOLES has sponsored this annual event for over fifteen years for high schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District. This is a great opportunity for the organization to give back to the community and mentor young students. Our goal is to show these students what college life is like, and to answer any questions they may have about applying to college.

  • YMD - Youth Motivation Day (AISES)

    • YMD increases the awareness of education to young people from the Los Angeles community. The drive to succeed in life starts at the young ages of elementary school students. Promotion of higher education cannot be left until the teenage years; it must start as early as possible. This program sets the students in the proper direction so that all doors remain open as they mature and continue their education.

  • WISE Day - Women in Science and Engineering Day (NSBE)

    • Among the young women who decide to attend college, a small fraction of them ever consider studying engineering and science. SOLES initiated WISE to lead young women into researching engineering and science as a future career. This event began many years ago, but in 1996, SOLES, NSBE, and AISES created a new approach to team together and make it a tri-organization event. The three organizations now work together on most outreach events in order to promote college to a diverse group of high school students.

SHPE

    • Academics, Community Outreach, Chapter Development, Leadership Development, and Professional Development

  • RLDC - Regional Leadership Development Conference

    • We belong to SHPE Region 2, which extends all the way to include Las Vegas and Arizona in addition to Southern California. Every year the region hosts a local leadership conference that includes valuable workshops, a career fair, industry tours, and networking with students from throughout the region!

  • RSR - Regional Student Representative

    • Currently Antonio Becerril, the RSR is a student leader that oversees the region.

  • NILA - National Institute for Leadership Advancement

    • We fondly call this “RLDC on steroids.” NILA is an intensive leadership certification program hosted by SHPE.

  • NRP - National Reporting Program

    • SHPE’s method of ensuring all of its chapters are healthy, active, and developing. The executive board must submit several documents twice a year to NRP.

  • CFF - Continuous Feedback Forms

    • Part of NRP, CFF’s are one-page sheets completed by officers to report analyses of a SOLES event. One CFF covers one event, and one CFF must be completed for each of the Five Pillars (see above).
